He was everything to me…’ Hema Malini breaks silence, shares first post after Dharmendra’s demise

New Delhi: Hema Malini has shared her first public message three days after Dharmendra’s death, in which she has paid a deeply personal tribute to her late husband. In an emotional post, he remembered him not only as a great actor but also as the emotional anchor of his life.

“Dharam ji. He was so many things to me. Loving husband, father to our two girls, Isha and Ahana, friend, philosopher, guide, poet, my go-to person in every time of need – truly, he was everything to me! And always there in good and bad times. He endeared himself to all my family members with his easy-going, friendly ways, always showing affection and interest to them all,” she wrote. He said that Dharmendra’s warmth and humility endeared him to everyone in his family and his huge legacy in Indian cinema will always live on. Describing her loss as indescribable, Hema said that she is left with memories that will stay with her throughout her life.

Dharmendra died on 24 November at the age of 89, marking the end of one of the most influential eras of Hindi cinema. His last rites were performed at Pawan Hans crematorium in Vile Parle.

The actor known as the “He-Man of Indian Cinema” was unwell for some time. After deteriorating health he was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on 10 November, discharged after two days and continued treatment at home, where he eventually died.

Dharmendra is survived by his first wife Prakash Kaur; his second wife, Hema Malini; and their six children – Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Vijeta, Ajita, Isha and Ahana.

With iconic performances in classic films like Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Aaya Sawan Jhoom Ke, Aayi Milan Ki Bela and Anupamaa, Dharmendra has left behind a cinematic legacy that has shaped generations. His death has sparked an outpouring of grief across the country, with fans and colleagues remembering the star whose influence extended far beyond the screen.
