New Delhi: Hema Malini has reacted to the controversy surrounding Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification from the Olympics as she was found to be 100 grams overweight. But veteran actress-turned-politician Hema Malini’s response is being severely criticised.
Speaking to PTI, Hema Malini was asked about the heartbreaking news of Vinesh Phogat being disqualified from the Paris Olympics, her reaction to which is going viral and she is receiving severe criticism.

In an interview with PTI, he said, “It is very surprising and strange that she got disqualified because of 100 grams. How expensive is your weight and maintaining the weight properly! This should be a good lesson for all of us, all the artists, women, everyone… 100 grams also matters a lot, we feel very sorry for her, I wish she would lose 100 grams quickly, but she won’t be able to do it now.”
This reaction of Hema Malini is extremely shameful. One user wrote, “I really don’t understand why people vote for someone like Hema Malini,” while another user commented, “This is a very stupid and insensitive thing to say in this context… being 100 grams overweight is more of a logical error and bad luck than being unhealthy… do you realize how hard these Olympic athletes train and follow strict diets… they didn’t beat the world’s number 1 player despite being mediocre in strength and skill… saying these things makes it seem like they were eating samosas and ice cream everyday… healthy living is an important message but there is a time for everything.”
