Dharassha: ‘Norman’ fame actor Richard Gere on Sunday attended the 90th birthday of the Tibetan spiritual leader, 14th Dalai Lama in Dharmashala.
On the occasion, Hollywood actor Richard Gere, who is also a practice Buddhist, met the 14th Dalai Lama and received blessings from the Tibetan spiritual leader.
He kissed the Dalai Lama’s hand in praise and honor as he bowed to the Tibetan spiritual leader. The actor was seen sitting behind the Dalai Lama.
Gere was involved by other dignitaries for the 14th Dalai Lama’s birthday celebrations. The guests were entertained by a traditional dance by the Tibetan community and followers of the Dalai Lama.
The dance marked a joyful festival of the 14th Dalai Lama’s birthday.
Meanwhile, the Tibetan Buddhist monks living in exile offered special prayers at the Dorjidak Math near Shimla in Panthaghati on Sunday morning to mark the 90th birthday of the 14th Dalai Lama.
The occasion was marked by serious rituals, long -life prayers and symbolic offerings led by a young boy monk, a young boy monk, Ningma School, the head of Ningma School in Tibet Buddhism.
The boy monk also cut a formal cake as part of the ceremony, which offers prayers for the long life of the spiritual leader.
Talking to Annie on the importance of the day, the Tibetan Buddhist monk Kung Lama expressed both Anand and Shraddha.
“As a Tibetan Buddhist, I would say that this celebration of the Dalai Lama’s birthday is not only a celebration, but it is also the identity of the Tibetan community, Tibetan unity, monks and the leader of the entire culture of peace and compassion,” said Kung Lama.
He said, “It is our responsibility to fulfill whatever he says as Buddhists. As I had already said, it is the identity of the Tibetan community. One more thing I would like to say is that he has always been a guide to the world with compassion and love. Most of us follow their own way, what he preachs,” he said.
He said, “We are praying here for the long life of the Dalai Lama and also for those who are suffering all over Himachal due to floods, and people suffering all over the world.
“The younger boy here is not only an ordinary monk; he is the rebirth of Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche, which will be the head of Nyingma School in the future. He only offered prayers and cut the cake for the long life of the Dalai Lama.
Born on July 6, 1935 as Lehmo Dhondup, the Dalai Lama, in a small farming village in northeast Tibet, was recognized as a reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama at the age of two.
He was formally established on 22 February 1940 as a spiritual and cosmic leader of Tibet, and was named Tenzin Gyato. The word “Dalai Lama” is Mongolian, which means “ocean of knowledge”.
In Tibetan Buddhism, the Dalai Lamas are considered to be the expressions of Avalokiteshwara, which is an enlightened Bodhisattva, as an enlightened that opt for rebirth to serve all sensitive creatures.
After the Chinese invasion of Tibet in 1949, the Dalai Lama took full political rights in 1950. He was forced to escape in exile in March 1959 after violent repression of the Tibetan rebellion in March 1959.
He has since continued to advocate for peace, non -violence and compassion in India, with over 80,000 Tibetan refugees.
