Actor Hrithik Roshan went down memory lane as his film Lakshya re-released in theatres. As the film completed 20 years, he shared a video to reflect on his experience of playing the role of Karan Shergill. The makers took to their official Instagram handle and shared a video of Hrithik Roshan reminiscing about his unforgettable experience. “Friends, filmmaking, fun and frolic and in a blink of an eye, #20yearsOfLakshya is here. Back in theatres 21st June,” he captioned the post.

Hrithik reminisces about his character Karan Shergill and reflected on his collaboration with Farhan Akhtar and his approach as a director that allowed him to transcend the conventional boundaries of performance. In the video, “I am here to talk about Lakshya. 20 years ago, this film that we did. I was really young. I was barely an actor. And Farhan was a friend, who has suddenly become this incredible mind. I saw his first film. I was thinking, ‘How has this person made this film? How? Where did he get the courage or the knowledge or the know-how?'”

He further added, “And he had written this beautiful, beautiful script and more than the story, the biggest reason was that the character of Karan Shergill was me. I don’t know why Farhan chose me. Probably, the director’s mind could see and understand a person’s face and knew that this person has gone through something that makes him the perfect actor for this film.”

Talking about his character Karan Shergill and how he connected with this incredible journey, Hrithik said, “I really think that at that particular point in time, I was definitely the perfect human being, not the actor, but the perfect human being to be cast for this film Lakshya. Because I have gone through all those experiences in very similar ways. Karan Shergill was me. I didn’t have to do much. The naivety, the spontaneity, the anger, being on that brink of maturity, learning the ways, being totally confused and wondering what I was going to do with my life, there was no path that looked promising. I went through that crossroads in my life so deeply and so intensely that it just happened naturally to me. It was a joy to play and act as Karan Shergill.”

As soon as the video was shared, fans and industry insiders poured in their reactions in the comments section. Farhan Akhtar wrote, “Hrithik…you embodied Karan Shergill…all his qualities…his flaws, his strengths, his insecurities, his confidence, his ego and his weaknesses. You are perfect. You were him and he was you. Happy 20th birthday. Wishing you all the best.”

the story of Target It revolves around Karan Shergill (played by Hrithik), who has no goals for his future and is guided by his girlfriend, journalist Romila Dutta (played by Preity Zinta). Later, Karan joins the Indian Army and becomes a focused, disciplined officer cadet and eventually joins the Indian Army.

Directed by Farhan Akhtar, the film also featured Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani, Preity Zinta and the late Om Puri in pivotal roles. The film was released on June 18, 2004.
