There is speculation after an indie rock band having an AI-generated music project with more than one million monthly listeners on SPOTIFY whether the group was real.
Velvet Sundown’s name appears to be a sign for Lu Reid’s band The Velvet underground, the digital group has become a viral hit, which creates cruel online discussion after ranking hundreds of thousands of lots.
An update Spotify profile consulted by AFP on Tuesday admitted that the group was an “ongoing artistic provocation”.
Profile of Velvet Sundown said, “All characters, stories, music, voice and song are basic compositions that are generated with the help of artificial intelligence devices employed in the form of creative devices.”
The recently created social media profiles are characteristic of group photos that look suspicious, teasing the readers about the origin of the group, which often provide contradictory information.
Experts have long warned about the dangers of AI-images, videos and music generators, which blur the lines between real and fake.
In December, a major study by the International Confederation of Society of Author and Composers (CISAC), which represents more than five million creators worldwide, warned of the threat of AI-composed music.
It is estimated that artists may see their income less than 20 percent in the next four years as the market grows for AI-Composed music.
Stockholm-based streammer Spotify refused to comment directly about the velvet sundown directly when contacted by AFP.
Spokesperson Geraldin Igau wrote that the platform “does not financially prioritize or benefit from the music made using the AI tool”.
“All tracks are created, owned, and uploaded by licensed third parties,” Igau insisted.
Representative music streaming service dizzers displayed a warning for “AI-Janit Material” for Velvet Sundown.
“Some tracks on this album must have been created using artificial intelligence,” said this.

The Spotify rival has an AI-music detection tool capable of identifying songs generated using popular software models such as Suno and UDIO.
The Desired said in April that it was receiving more than 20,000 fully AI-related tracks on a daily basis, which included 18 percent of all the uploaded content, with the first 10 percent increase in January.
Reports on Tuesday stated that an imposter as US Secretary Marco Rubio used AI-Janit Voice and Text Messages to high level officials and foreign ministers.
