Actress Huma Qureshi is set to play the lead role in an upcoming investigative police procedural drama StatementAward-winning producer Shiladitya Bora announced this on Friday. Developed at Los Angeles-based Film Independent, Statement The film will be directed by writer-director Vikas Mishra, known for his acclaimed feature film Chauranga,
The drama is set in the picturesque landscape of Rajasthan and features a father-daughter story. A female detective named Ruhi is sent to a small town in Rajasthan to investigate the first case of her career as the lead investigator. However, she is bound to fail as her rival’s influence runs deep into the system. The logline states that Ruhi must strive to live up to the legacy of her father, who is a legend in the world of law enforcement.
Starring Chandrachur Singh and Sachin Khedekar, the film is set to begin production this month in Rajasthan. The film is produced by Shiladitya Bora (Platoon One Films), Madhu Sharma (Summit Studios), Kunaal Kumar and Anshuman Singh.
The film is supported by the Hubert Bals Fund of the International Film Festival Rotterdam and was developed at the LA Residency, a part of the Global Media Makers (GMM) program of Film Independent, Los Angeles. During the residency, Bikash was mentored by Craig Mazin (producer at HBO) Chernobyl And The Last of Us) and consulted on the script from writer Jeff Stockwell and story editor Ruth Atkinson.
Expressing her excitement about signing the film, Huma Qureshi said, “I was impressed by the passion of the director-producer duo, Vikas and Shiladitya.”
