It turns out that Jennifer Garner was a “cool” superhero herself, in a situation where hardly any of us would be caught up in uncontrollable hysteria. For her first Comic-Con experience in San Diego, the 13 Going on 30 star had planned to go all out at the Deadpool and Wolverine panels and surprise screenings. Yet, she found herself in an unexpected predicament that left her stuck inside an elevator for over an hour.
The 52-year-old Hollywood A-lister, who was previously married to Ben Affleck, shared the terrifying situation on social media and instantly went viral for keeping her cool throughout the whole ordeal.
Jennifer Garner’s first experience at Comic-Con goes viral
Despite being stuck inside the elevator for an hour and 12 minutes, Garner was spotted smiling during what is normally considered a frightening experience. She posted on her Instagram: “Baby’s first Comic Con: a short story.” The carousel post captures her live reactions and updates as she begins her story time in the first video: “Hey guys, we’re stuck in this elevator. I, umm, I need a Wolverine, I need a Deadpool. I need somebody… thanks for having us here, my first Comic-Con.”

After sitting in the elevator for 11 minutes, Garner said: “It’s too hot. I’m sweating a lot. I need to blot. Don’t cut the blue wire, that’s what we’re hearing.” She was happy, while another man in the background was presumably in touch with the elevator assistance company.
Garner kept her composure even after being stuck there for 35 minutes: “I think I heard in an episode of The Office or Brooklyn Nine-Nine or some other show that you’re supposed to sit down, so we’re sitting down.”
About 42 minutes after the incident, she began singing “99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall.” 45 minutes later, someone else who was in the elevator with Garner called 911. Though the frustration was clearly evident in her voice, the Electra actress somehow managed to stay in her best mood.
Many netizens appreciated how calm she was during the whole situation. “Oh I would never be able to stay so calm,” someone commented on Instagram. Another fan wrote, “OMG I would have panicked after 5 minutes because of my claustrophobia.”
Eventually, an hour and 12 minutes later, help arrived in the form of firemen. The emotional rollercoaster reportedly culminated in her arriving at a screening of the Ryan Reynolds-Hugh Jackman team-up, in which Jennifer also stars in – spoiler alert – a throwback cameo.
Her unexpected return to the superhero side of the fictional world also made waves for her funny digs at her ex-husband Ben Affleck, who previously starred alongside her in the superhero film Daredevil in the early 2000s, which was released under the 20th Century Studios banner at the time. Her irreverent jokes made headlines amid the entangled marital woes between Affleck and his now-wife Jennifer Lopez.
Garner was one of several surprise cameos in the latest MCU blockbuster, which officially welcomes the X-Men side of the mutants into Kevin Feige’s Marvel chapter.

She was on stage in Hall H at the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con on July 25 alongside Reynolds, Jackman, director Shawn Levy and several others who shall remain unnamed in case you still haven’t headed to theaters to see the film, which premiered Friday.
Meanwhile, the former daredevil — Ben Affleck himself — and JLo are struggling to sell their lavish Beverly Hills mansion, which they purchased last year for just over $60 million. According to UsWeekly, the estranged couple are “in a hurry to sell it.”
The report adds, “Ben in particular wants out of the house. He was never happy there.” Additionally, according to TMZ, Garner’s ex-wife has reportedly purchased a new home in California – a Pacific Palisades mansion – for $20.5 million.
