I was intoxicated by my own success: Ram Gopal Varma on career after ‘Satya’

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma said he cried while watching it Truth When it was re-released last week after 27 years, it was because he realized that he had become intoxicated by its success and that his later films, while artificial and shocking, did not have the same “honesty and integrity”.

“When the bright light of one Rangeela or a Truth Blinded me, made me lose my sight and it shows that I am equally vain and reckless in that process of making films for shock value or for gimmicky effect or to display obscene displays of my technical wizardry or many other things. I have forgotten such a simple truth. Extreme technology can elevate a given material but it cannot advance it.

While admitting that he had lost his way, he said that some of his later films may have been successful, but he did not think any of them had the same ‘honesty and integrity’. Truth,

RGV said that he started crying when he watched the hit film after its re-release on January 17, and admitted that his tears were not just for the film, but for “what happened after that”.

“…I ignored countless inspirations by dismissing it as another step in my journey toward a purposeless destination… I couldn’t understand why, with all my so-called intelligence, I didn’t watch this film. Created a benchmark for whatever I should do in the future.

“I also realized that I didn’t just cry for the tragedy of that film, I also cried in joy for that version of myself… and I cried in guilt for my betrayal of all those who had Had trusted me because of ‘Satya’. RGV wrote, “I was not drunk, but drunk on my success and ego, although I did not know this till two days ago.”

Actor Manoj Bajpayee, who rose to stardom playing Bhiku Mhatre in the 1998 film, praised RGV for reflecting his “life and work so brutally”. “And courage and fearlessness were always in abundance in you!! Not everyone can be like you. Thank you for just being you.”
