I wish I was a boy too: Ayushmann Khurrana writes a heartbreaking poem on Kolkata rape-murder case – Watch

Mumbai: As protests erupt across India following the tragic rape and murder of a young doctor in Kolkata, actor Ayushmann Khurrana has written a heart-wrenching poem on women’s safety. Taking to his Instagram account on Wednesday, Ayushmann shared a video of himself reciting the poem, which reflects the pain and fear many women face in today’s society.

Her poem reads, “Main bhi bina lund laga kar soti, kaash main bhi ladka hoti, jhalli ban ke daudti udaati, sahari raat dosto ke saath phiri, kaash main bhi ladka hoti…” (I would sleep without locking the door, I wish I was a carefree boy, I would run, fly, roam around with friends all night, I wish I was a boy…)

Earlier, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi targeted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the case of sexual harassment and death of a female trainee doctor.

Demanding strict punishment for the accused in the rape and death of the doctor in Kolkata hospital,

Rahul Gandhi in a post on Instagram said that the entire nation is shocked by the heinous incident of rape and murder of a junior doctor in Kolkata.

He said, “The way the layers of the inhuman act against her are being revealed, there is an atmosphere of insecurity among the doctor community and women. The attempt to save the accused instead of providing justice to the victim raises serious questions on the hospital and the local administration.”

The opposition leader questioned, “This incident has forced us to think that if doctors are not safe in a place like a medical college, then how can parents send their daughters outside for studies? Why are even the strict laws made after the Nirbhaya incident unsuccessful in preventing such crimes?”

The Congress MP said that every party, every section of society will have to have a serious discussion and take concrete steps on the continuously increasing incidents against women from Hathras to Unnao and from Kathua to Kolkata.

He said, “I stand with the victim’s family in this unbearable pain. They must get justice at all costs and the culprits must be given such a punishment that it serves as an example in society.”

The incident, which occurred on August 9, sparked widespread outrage and protests within and outside the medical community.

The post-graduate trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. The family has alleged that the victim was raped and murdered.

Doctors across the country are protesting in strong support against the murder and alleged sexual assault of a postgraduate intern (PGT) doctor and demanding justice for the victim.

Protests were held in Kolkata, Guwahati, Hyderabad and Mumbai on Wednesday. Protesters held placards that read “Justice must be served”, “No duty without security” and “Justice delayed is justice denied”.
