New Delhi: Actor Vijay Varma, who is gearing up for his upcoming limited series ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’, has shared a glimpse from the cockpit. On Saturday, the actor took to his Instagram and shared 2 pictures with Captain Devi Sharan, who was the pilot during the hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight 814, along with First Officer Rajinder Kumar and Flight Engineer Anil Kumar Jagia. Captain Devi Sharan displayed tremendous courage and composure during the crucial moments.
Vijay also penned a long note in the caption, in which he reminisced the first time he met the pilot. He wrote, “Real and reel Captain Sharan. When I met the Captain for the first time.. I was overwhelmed by his pleasant smile and his simplicity.. and then I saw a mark on his neck.. I asked him about it.. he simply and humbly said ‘un abductor ki gunk se 7 dike kehe yahi ragti rahi toh ghaav ho gaya tha jo ichak nahi hua’ I was stunned (The wound I got because of the kidnapper’s gun never healed) He smiled”.
He further added, “I knew I was talking to a real-life hero. It was a huge honour to play Captain Devi Sharan on screen. His efforts to save lives amid chaos and horror are truly inspiring! A story of resilience and dignity… of critical thinking and duty… of patience and hope and most of all… of bravery. The series is based on the hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight 814, an Indian Airlines Airbus A300 that flew from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal to Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, India in December 1999. The flight was hijacked and flown to several locations before landing in Kandahar, Afghanistan, which was under the control of the Taliban at the time. ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’ will release on Netflix on August 29.
