If I started … Aamir Khan opens on daughter Ira’s mental health journey

New Delhi: Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, who is currently riding a high ride on the success of his latest film Sitare Zameen Par, hosted a special screening of the film at Rashtrapati Bhavan for President Draupadi Murmu. The incident marked a significant moment in the film’s journey, which highlighted both its significant praise and social resonance.

In a clear conversation with Filmfare, Khan entered the individual field deeply, opened up about his family’s mental health, especially his daughter Ira Khan’s struggle with depression.

Khan shared, “You feel far more for your children, as much as you can.” “When Ira went through depression, it was incredibly difficult, not only Reena and for me but for the whole family. We did everything we could support him and live there for him. I really am happy to see how far he is.”

Khan revealed that Ira’s depression began when she was around 18 or 19 years old and was preparing to attend the University of Utract in the Netherlands. Although Khan is famous for formal education, he was urged to support Ira’s educational discovery by his former partners Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao.

“She was ready to attend the University of YouTract in the Netherlands, but she did not want to go.” “But Reena and Kiran made me sit down and told me,” Don’t you dare to support him. ” I pressurized and asked him to be present.

Two years later, while filing Lal Singh Chaddha in Spain, Khan received a distressed call from Ira. Without any hesitation, he flew to the Netherlands, brought him back to Mumbai, and supported his recovery.

“Even in Mumbai, it was difficult,” he said. “Once depression is set, it is difficult to deal with it. Sadly, many youths face it today.”

Khan also reflected on his journey with mental health and therapy. “Honestly, I want me to know about therapy when I was 18 years old. If I started, I think my life would be very different. Take something as basic as a partner, after four years of therapy, I can now watch red flags from a mile.”

The actor talked about psychological tolls that his profession could be taken. Recalling his experience during the filming of Talash, Khan said, “In cinema, you are constantly playing with emotions, pretending to feel the things you have not really experienced. In Talash, for example, my character had lost a child. Every day, I had to mentally place myself in that destructive place, as if it was real.”

More than three decades in the film industry and 35 films under his belt, Khan emphasized the emotional demands of his craft, not only for himself, but for the entire crew.

As Sitare continues to resonate with the audience across the ground, the openness of the mine provides a rare glimpse in the emotional cost of stardom and underlines the importance of mental health awareness in today’s society.
