Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan presented the awards at the closing ceremony of the festival. Mr Vijayan also presented IFFK’s Lifetime Achievement Award for his year to African filmmaker Abderrahmane Sissako.

The jury president, Iranian filmmaker Mohammad Rasoulof, who is serving a prison sentence in Iran for his creative efforts, was also honored at the ceremony. Filmmaker Saeed Akhtar Mirza was honored on the occasion of his completion of 50 years in cinema.

He said, “There is no place like Kerala in India which has such a tremendous history of cinema. When this state honors me, it means a lot to me.”
