“My Melbourne”, starring four acclaimed filmmakers, Imtiaz Ali, Onir, Reema Das and Kabir Khan, received the Best Film Award at the 27th UK Asian Film Festival.
According to a press release, Manufactured by Mitu Bhomik Lang, Wickskrin and Screen in partnership with Australia, “My Melbourne” has won the Special Festival Award on the festival celebrating the festival.
The film includes Shorts “Emma” by Das, “Jules” by Ali, “Nandini” by Onir and “Setra” by Khan. Movies are reflective of various subjects of diversity including gender, breed, sexuality and disability, ‘working on’ ‘My Melbourne’ was a deep rich experience. To see it to be honored in this way to see that it confirms the importance of stories that detect human feelings beyond the geographical boundaries. It is a proud moment for all.
Khan said, “Cinema has the power to bridge cultures and promote sympathy”, and this anthology is a will for that.
He said, “I am actually part of a project that brings such meaningful narratives to life and is recognized on a global stage,” he said.
“My Melbourne” had a world premiere at Melbourne’s 15th Indian Film Festival. Later in India was released in 2024 at the Mummy Film Festival.
Das called the recognition of the film “special” and said that the project was born “the fine, everyday realities and their desire to reflect their emotional visits”. He said, “This recognition is special because it tells us that these personal stories are also universal.”
Onir said, “This project was close to my heart because it gave us an opportunity to tell stories, which cross the boundaries and touch the universal feelings of longing and turbulence. I feel humble and proud to be a part of this beautiful journey.”
The UK Asian Film Festival was held in London between May 1 and May 11.
