Influencer accuses Diljit Dosanjh of charging ’20-25 thousand’ for just 1 ticket of Dil-Luminati India Tour ‘in this economy’

All tickets for the India leg of Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh’s ‘Dil-Luminati Tour’ were sold out within minutes on Thursday. Reacting to the high ticket prices, Mumbai-based comedian and social media influencer Saumya Sahni on Friday shared a video in which she said Diljit Dosanjh has no right to charge such a high price from his Indian fans, adding that many of these fans ‘have no money or are unemployed’. Saumya Sahni reacts on Diljit Dosanjh’s Dil-Luminati Tour India ticket price.

‘No one deserves it’

He said, “I might regret saying this later, but I must say that an Indian artist has no right to charge 20-25 thousand rupees for a concert when he is playing in six cities. He plays teen sets. He can’t do that because your core audience has no money, no employment, there are very limited means of entertainment that this country has, middle class people can perform in their language. No access to that (no Indian artist should charge).” In India, one gets Rs 20-25 thousand for a concert, whereas he is performing in so many cities. He can do more sets in each city because your audience has no money, no employment and limited means of entertainment. It means a lot to see someone like him singing in our language, but middle class people don’t have access to him.

Saumya said, “It’s strange to me that an artist whose concert can be attended by kids, by a middle-class family… they make so much money overseas that they can subsidize these things for the country. Like, tickets for an overseas artist cost around $100-$150, which is all that’s needed for the setup. Lollapalooza passes are so low, even with a huge lineup. In comparison, international artists charge around $100-$150 for a ticket. Lollapalooza passes are also priced low despite the huge lineup of performances.”

He added this text: “My 2 am thoughts are extremely class-conscious,” Soumya captioned her video.

Reactions to the video

Many thought that Soumya had ‘actually given a pretty fair assessment’. “He will realise it when he sings and no one responds,” one Instagram user commented on Soumya’s video. Another added, ” 500 max. Don’t watch it, it costs more than that. I will watch it on YouTube. One comment also read, “Being a middle class person I never thought Diljit would get so carried away by the greed for fame and money.”

Someone also commented, “This is actually quite a fair assessment. Nirvana as a band has always ensured that their ticket prices are kept extremely low so that only their real fans can attend the concerts and not just people who can afford it.” Another added, “Diljit can easily book multiple stadium shows per city, but I guess money > fan base! Wasn’t expecting that.”

More information about upcoming concerts

In early September, Diljit Dosanjh finally announced the dates for the India leg of his Dil-Luminati Tour. Tickets for the shows went on pre-sale on September 10, and were made available for general purchase on Thursday afternoon. Not surprisingly, all the tickets were sold out in a matter of minutes, and many on X (formerly Twitter) even reacted to the ‘madness’ for the India leg of Diljit’s tour.

Diljit’s tour will start from Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on October 26 this year. After Delhi, the tour will go to Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Pune, Kolkata, Bangalore, Indore, Chandigarh and Guwahati.
