Interview | Malayalam filmmaker-writer Shahi Kabir on his new police drama, ‘Rontth’

Shahi Kabir has done what he again does-to exploit his life as a former police officer and weave the stories with hard work. Recently there is one melodyHis Sofomore film as director.

A slower, the story, the story, two police officers, Yohanan (Dilesh Pothan) and Dinath (Roshan Matthew) swings in the lives of the night with Dinanath on The Wheel before Christmas. There is a boil tension between the two. Dinath is an idealistic crook while Yohnan is practical and harsh than experience. As they deal with many cases that night, some of which leave them distraught and painful, they eventually attack a bond. By the time their innings ends, they get caught in a trap, which leads to an unavoidable climax.

Real to reel

Shahi says that many incidents shown in the film have happened to either her or other police officers, whom they know, enough layers of the story have been added to the story. “I have patrolled the night on many occasions in my career. Also, Roshan has colors of my character, especially fear, apprehension and anxiety. Yohanan has symptoms of many senior officials with whom I have worked and whom I have heard about the fellow police.”

Till now four police plays have been written or directed – Yusuf(Author), Nayattu(Author), Ella Visa Poonchira(Director) and Duty officer (Author), Shahi believes that the subject is his comfort field at this time. “Even though I am eager to write a different style, the industry expects police stories.” He resigned from the police force a few months ago after 13 years of service. “I was on leave for five years. It was difficult to balance both of them with more opportunities coming in it. So I put it in my papers.”

melody His first film as a director and script writer. The beginning of his direction, Ella Visa PoonchiraThe fellow was written by police officers, investment ji and Shaji Mara. “It was difficult to be a writer and director at the same time. If it was the story of another person, he would be all around to indicate discrepancies or remind me of things. It was difficult to handle both roles, especially because a significant part of the film is at night. We had 36 days shooting with Irritti (in Kannur district).

Shahi says that night shooting cinematographer Manesh was equally challenging for Madhavan, who has worked with him Yusuf And Ila Visa Poonchira. “It may not be very raw. Also, Roshni had to be correct. She had to find a balance between being realistic and cinematic.”

The shooting of the film was added to the difficulties in Sink Sound. “There were a lot of practical challenges, around which there was a lot of noise. Sound team (Sinoy Joseph, who did sound mixing, and Arun Asok and Sonu KP, who held the Sink Sound and Sound Design) worked so hard to give the best output.”

Shahi says that he thought about the story soon after its release Nayattu (2021), who won him the Kerala State Film Award for the best story. “But due to covid-inspired sanctions, we move forward Ella Visa PoonchiraSince the film required geographically closed settings. otherwise melody It must have been returned then. ,

For artists, Shahi believes that he could not say to a better artist. “He is two of the two best actors in the industry. Roshan is a great artist and I was confident that it would be different from what he has done so far.”

While he believes that Thondimuthalam dricysakshyum The police is the most realistic depiction of the police in Malayalam cinema, Shahi says that there has been a change over time. “There has been a type of development. There was a time when the police characters were just for laughter, as in the case of Adoor Bhar, Bahadur, Indran, Cochin Hanifa, etc., followed by honest, honest police officers’ stories.
