Famous singer and actor Prashant Tamang, winner of the famous singing reality show ‘Indian Idol’, passed away on Sunday. After the news of his demise, there is an influx of people paying tribute.
South-West Delhi ADCP Abhimanyu Poswal shared the official update on his death and said it would be difficult to say anything suspicious “until the final postmortem report comes”.
Poswal told ANI, “Today at 3.10 pm, an MLC was received from Mata Chanan Devi Hospital. We received information that Prashant Tamang, a resident of Raghunagar, was declared dead in the hospital. An investigating officer visited there and received the MLC.”

He said, “The crime team and the FSL team reached the residence of the deceased and collected evidence. At present, the body has been sent to DDU Hospital for postmortem, so that we can know the cause of death. His wife and daughter lived with him and it was his wife who brought him to the hospital. His statement and other things have been recorded. Till the final postmortem report comes, it will be difficult to say anything suspicious.”
His untimely demise has shocked his fans, friends and family, with many prominent personalities expressing grief over his demise.
Expressing condolences, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said in a post on Instagram, “Saddened by the sudden and untimely demise today of Prashant Tamang, popular singer and artist of national repute, of ‘Indian Idol’ fame. His roots in our Darjeeling hills and his one-time association with the Kolkata Police made him especially endearing to us in Bengal. I extend my condolences to his family, friends and countless followers.”

Fellow actor Amit Paul wrote on his Instagram Story, “This is so fitting!!! Keep smiling guys!!! The world won’t be the same without you!!! I still can’t process it… My brother, my friend, my friend @prashanttamangofficial has left for heaven… I can’t believe I have to write this.”
BJP MP from Darjeeling Raju Bista also reacted to the news and paid a long tribute to the late singer. “The untimely demise of Prashant Tamang, a popular singer and actor who shone on the Indian Idol stage across the Hindi and Nepali music industry, has shocked and deeply shocked the entire fraternity of art and music, including Hindi and Nepali,” the statement said.
He further added, “After winning ‘Indian Idol 2007’, Prashant Tamang ji introduced Nepali songs and music not only to the Gorkhas of India, but across the world on a wider scale, making his name among the stalwarts who made the talent of Gorkhas in the field of music famous on the global stage. Born on January 4, 1983 in Tungsung, Darjeeling, Prashant Tamang ji, though he did not receive formal music training, he Got the opportunity. Showcased his talent in music while serving in the Police Orchestra of West Bengal Police. After winning the title of Indian Idol, he did not limit himself to the field of music but also entered the world of singing in the Nepali blockbuster film ‘Gorkha Paltan’ and after that worked in dozens of films….”

Nagaland Minister Temjen Imna Along also paid tribute to Tamang, remembering him as his “dear friend”.
“To me, Prashant was more than a talented artist, he was a dear friend with a kind heart and a beautiful soul. His humility and warmth always came through, no matter where life took him. Although he is no longer with us, his voice, his smile and the memories we shared will always be with me. Rest in peace, my friend. You will be greatly missed and fondly remembered,” Temgen Imna Along wrote.

Hailing from Darjeeling, West Bengal, Prashant Tamang was the winner of Indian Idol Season 3. Apart from cementing his position in music, he also ventured into acting, most famously in ‘Paatal Lok Season 2’. She is also expected to be a part of Salman Khan’s upcoming film, ‘Battle of Galwan’.
Prashant Tamang started his acting career in Nepali cinema in 2009. His first film, Gorkha Paltan, was released in 2010 and performed well at the box office. He followed this with Anglo Yo Maya, produced in Sikkim, which was released on March 31, 2011. Later the same year, her third film Kina Maya Ma was released. Tamang’s fourth Nepali film, Nishani (2014), was based on the bravery of the Gorkhas during the Kargil War.
