‘Jackie Flam’
The official X handle of Paris Paralympics 2024 on Wednesday shared a photo of Jackie Chan wearing a white jersey and glasses holding the Paralympic torch as he is surrounded by a crowd of people on the streets of Paris. The caption reads, “Jackie Flame! (fire and karate gi emoji) (camera with flash emoji) #Paris2024.”
People on the internet were overjoyed to see Jackie getting the honour of carrying the Paralympic torch. However, they also pointed out that he had received the same honour earlier this year at the Paris Olympics. BTS singer Jin was among the many people who carried the Olympic torch in Paris this year. A fan commented on Jackie’s photo, “You should have led the main Olympics opening ceremony with Jackie Chan (hug emoji).”
Others were also happy to see Jackie in action again. One of them wrote, “Jackie Chan (mind blowing emoji) Old is Gold (gold medal emoji).” Another commented, “Oh I miss watching him on screen.” A third person said, “I hope I still have that energy at 70.” A fourth person commented, “My childhood hero (heart eyes emoji).” Many others called him a “legend” and dropped fire emojis in the comments section.
Jackie Chan’s Paris Connection
The third installment of the Rush Hour films (2007), filmed in France, featured a pivotal fight scene at the Eiffel Tower, in which Jackie somersaults and rolls down the iron beams of this symbol of Paris to escape his opponent.
“I did all my own stunts, even the fight and acrobatics scene on top of the Eiffel Tower,” he told reporters at the premiere in 2007. Jackie added, “I can say to my grandchildren, ‘That’s your grandfather. That’s me. That’s not some double flying around the Eiffel Tower in 100-mile-per-hour winds.'”
This was not the first time he had carried the Olympic torch. In 2008, he was among several other Chinese celebrities to carry the Olympic torch ahead of the games in Beijing – including Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’s Zhang Ziyi.
Jackie will next be seen in the film Karate Kid.
