Superstar Rajinikanth and director Nelson have worked together Jailer 2. Produced by Sun Pictures, the film is a sequel to the hit 2023 film.
Nelson had revealed about the sequel at an event in 2024. The makers officially announced the sequel with a video on the occasion of Pongal (January 14, 2025, Tuesday). In the video, Nelson and musician Anirudh Ravichander are seen relaxing in Goa, while a news bulletin mentions a cyclone that is rapidly moving towards Chennai.
In his trademark cheeky style, Nelson explains how since the release of his last film, five cyclones have passed and Donald Trump has become President of the United States. Even as the two try to arrive at a concrete idea for their next film, they are shocked to find a group of men brutally attacked by a mysterious person.
The teaser gradually reveals that the attacker is none other than ‘Tiger’ Muthuvel Pandian, a retired jailer with a dangerous reputation across the country. In the first part, a retired Muthuvel Pandian springs into action when his son’s tryst with a mafia gang goes awry. Anirudh will play the role of music director for the film while Kalanithi Maran of Sun Pictures is the producer.

waterNelson’s first collaboration with Rajinikanth, hit the screens on August 10, 2023. With memorable cameos by Shivarajkumar and Mohanlal, the film became the highest-grossing Tamil film of the year. Vinayakan played the role of a fiery antagonist in the film.
The film stars Ramya Krishnan, Tamannaah, Vasanth Ravi, Yogi Babu, Mirna Menon and Sunil, with cameos by Mohanlal, Shiv Rajkumar, Jackie Shroff, Kishore and Makrand Deshpande.
Rajinikanth is currently shooting for Lokesh Kanagaraj’s film. Coolie, Starring Akkineni Nagarjuna, Sathyaraj, Upendra, Shruti Haasan and Soubin Sahir, the film is bankrolled by Sun Pictures.
