Mumbai: International filmmakers James Cameron and Joe Russo have opened up about the cinematic wizardry of Indian director SS Rajamouli and how he strikes a balance between action, drama and emotions, making his movies truly spectacular.
In a rare and insightful discussion in the upcoming documentary-film ‘Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli’, Cameron and Russo elaborate on Rajamouli’s art of storytelling. They marvel at his talent for creating epic and deeply human worlds.
Sharing his thoughts in the docu-film, James said: “Well, that’s quite a compliment. Now as filmmakers, we all have the same kind of influences, the things that influenced us as we were growing up. But he (Rajamouli) has made it his own in a very – I want to say, muscular style, but I’m not referring to the strength and physicality of the actors.”
“Although he celebrates it very well, it’s very…it’s a style that has a lot of energy, a lot of dynamism…a lot of it gets etched into your consciousness in an unforgettable way,” he added.
Both Cameron and Russo praised Rajamouli’s fearless innovative spirit, his relentless pursuit of cinematic innovation and his willingness to push the boundaries of what is possible on the big screen.
Commenting on the scale of ‘RRR’ and Rajamouli’s craftsmanship, Joe Russo said: “I think ‘RRR’ surprised people in Hollywood. I think the level of craft displayed here is at par with any big Hollywood film, any large-scale film.”
Produced by Applause Entertainment and Film Companion Studios, “Modern Masters” is directed by Raghav Khanna and is now streaming on Netflix.
Rajamouli’s latest release, the Telugu epic period action drama ‘RRR’ stars NTR Jr, Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Shriya Saran, Samuthirakani, Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody and Olivia Morris.
The film ‘Natu Natu’ won the Academy Award for ‘Best Original Song’.
