New Delhi: Javed Akhtar is the first person in Bollywood who openly criticized Sandeep Reddy Vanga for Ranbir Kapoor’s film Animal. The writer called the success of Animal dangerous for the society and later also had a war of words with the filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga. And now once again Javed Akhtar has taken a dig at Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal’s dialogue ‘Lick my shoe’.
Sharing his perspective once again on a scene played by the film’s protagonist Ranbir, Javed was asked on the show ‘We Are Yuva’ about how the image of the angry hero is still associated with the film industry in the South compared to the North, to which Javed said, “See (in the South) also, he is eventually becoming a caricature of himself.”
Giving the example of the lick my shoe scene with Tripti Dimri in Animal, he further said, “Now if there is that man, then he is the one whose shoe is licked by a woman. So he has started becoming a caricature of the angry young man or the strong man.”
Sandeep Reddy had earlier hit out at Javed Akhtar for criticising his film, citing the example of Mirzapur, produced by his son and Bollywood star Farhan Akhtar. Javed Akhtar hit back at the filmmaker, saying, “In my 53-year career, he couldn’t find one film, one script, one scene, one dialogue, one song. So he had to go to my son’s office and find a TV serial in which Farhan has neither acted, nor directed, nor written. In a career of 53 years, you couldn’t find anything. What a shame”.
We wonder if this latest comment by Javed Akhtar will once again start a war of words between him and Wanga.
