Actor Sachin Pilgaonkar has joined the cast as the presenter of Jayant Digambar Somalkar’s award-winning Marathi film Site.
venue Won the prestigious NETPAC Award for Best Film from the Asia-Pacific Region at the 48th Toronto International Film Festival in 2023. The film is set to release in theaters on March 7, 2025.
The film stars first-time artiste from Sonalkar’s village – Nandini Chikte in the lead role along with Savita along with Taranath Khiratkar, Sangeeta Sonekar, Suyog Dhwas, Sandeep Somalkar, Sandeep Parkhi, Swati Ulmale, Gauri Badki and Mansi Pawar.
The film is produced by Karan Grover, Shefali Bhushan, Jayant Digambar Somalkar and Reega Malhotra.
Set in a village in the Vidarbha region of India, the story “follows a determined young girl, Savita, who yearns for education and a bright future. However, when her farmer parents desperately try to find her a suitable boy, When she struggles, she faces immense pressure to give priority to marriage over personal aspirations.
Pilgaonkar shared the poster of the film on social media on Friday and announced its release on the occasion of the birth anniversary of India’s first female teacher, social reformer and poet Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule.
The actor said he watched the film for the first time with his wife Supriya Pilgaonkar at the MAMI festival in Mumbai and both of them loved it.

“This film, based on the rural culture of Maharashtra, received such an overwhelming response even from the Marathi diaspora in the US that I immediately offered all my support to the director,” the actor said in a statement.

Following its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, the film has been screened at 29 major film festivals and has received over 16 awards.
