Srinagar: The ‘Jammu and Kashmir Film Conclave 2024’ is beginning on August 1 at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) on the banks of the famous Dal Lake.
The conference will be attended by several renowned directors and acclaimed actors including Madhur Bhandarkar, Rahat Kazmi, Karan Johar, Parag Mehta and Mir Sarwar.
It is hoped that his visit will help Kashmir regain the glory in film and documentary making that it had before the violence broke out.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will inaugurate the film conference and also launch the single window portal for film shooting permission and film subsidy.
The initiative will “revolutionise” filmmaking in Jammu and Kashmir by streamlining processes and providing much-needed subsidies to filmmakers.
Participants will also have the opportunity to attend the inaugural Jammu and Kashmir Film Screening Series and the Frames of Transformation Photography Competition. These events reflect the region’s commitment to promoting local talent and showcasing its cinematic potential.
Padma Shri awardee Madhur Bhandarkar, known for his bold storytelling and impactful films, who judged the Naya Jammu Kashmir Short Film Competition, will be the keynote speaker at the event. He is expected to share his unique perspective and provide invaluable insights about the future of filmmaking in the region.
Film personalities like Rahat Kazmi, Parag Mehta and Mir Sarwar will lead informative panel discussions. Film lovers can also attend practical workshops, where they can gain practical knowledge from industry veterans.
Inaugurating the Jammu and Kashmir Film Screening Series and the Frames of Transformation Photography Competition, the conference underscores the region’s commitment to promoting artistic expression and celebrating visual storytelling.
The event will also honour the winners of the Naya Jammu Kashmir Short Filmmaking Competition, where their award-winning films will be screened. This celebration of creativity and innovation highlights the immense talent that exists in the region, waiting to be discovered and nurtured.
