Despite high expectations, Joker: Folie à Deux struggled at the box office.
One of the most anticipated films of the year, Joker: Folie à Deux, turned out to be a massive disappointment at the US box office and worldwide. Although it reached the top spot in North America, the film fell far short of expectations. It grossed much less than its predecessor Joker, which was released in 2019. The film’s budget is estimated to be $190 million.

Joker 2 flops opening at US box office
The movie is being talked about on the internet but for the wrong reasons as fans have expressed their disappointment towards the movie. Furthermore, it earned a terrible D rating from CinemaScore and faced poor word-of-mouth criticism. While the film’s pre-sales were glowing with a gross of $70 million, it sank on its release day and opening weekend.
Trade analyst, Luiz Fernando reports that the Joaquin Phoenix-led film collected $81.1 million during its 6-day opening, while the first part earned $150.8 million in 2019. The sequel’s collection during the opening weekend in North America is estimated to be $40 million. As reported by Variety. The report also stated that the film’s gross was estimated to be between $50 million and $65 million, but the upper limit was later revised to $70 million.

Joker: Worldwide Performance of the Folie à Deux
Joker 2 was released in over 70 locations worldwide. However, worldwide box office results were similar to domestic figures. The film grossed $121.1 million worldwide, while its previous film had earned a staggering $247 million at the world box office. This number is reportedly less than what the first film of The Flash earned. As per Koimoi report, it grossed $130.1 million and even Dwayne Johnson starrer Black Adam performed better than Joker 2 with a collection of $142.9 million.
Phoenix plays the Joker and Lady Gaga plays Harley Quinn in the Todd Phillips-directed film, which was released in theaters on October 4.
