In the recently released docu-series “Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story,” the 62-year-old singer-songwriter revealed that his vocal problems began in 2015 but got worse in 2022, forcing him to seek professional intervention.

Speaking to People magazine at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s latest exhibit focusing on his band Bon Jovi, the musician said he was “extremely excited” after taking the stage in Nashville, Tennessee, over the weekend.

“We performed in Nashville last night, and everything was great. So, I’m slowly coming back,” said Bon Jovi, known for songs such as “Livin’ on a Prayer,” “It’s My Life” and “You Give Love a Bad Name.”

She credited singer Shania Twain, who had similar voice problems, for encouraging her to pursue the procedure.

“She has been my soul sister in this matter. She is the only woman I know who has had this surgery with this doctor, and I only found out because she reported it in the press.

The Grammy winner recalled, “Not only did she reassure me that everything was going to be OK, but I think she even teased me a little bit because she told me I would be coming out a lot sooner than I ever have. She said, ‘Well, I told you that because I knew you might back out otherwise.’ And so, I couldn’t wait to have the operation.”

Bon Jovi, who has just released his new album “Forever,” said he has been working closely with vocal coaches to improve.

“Every day is a process of improvement,” he said.
