The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has informed the Kerala High Court that it is opposing the character of ‘Janaki’ (who is another name for Goddess Sita), which is being shown under rape as well as being aggressively cross -examined for another religion lawyer, which is not an insult to humiliate something, except for anything, there is no oblivious form, which is not an outsicated form, Are you JSK – Janaki vs. Kerala,
The board’s affidavit states that the petition filed by the film production company fails to appreciate that films are evaluated in their entirety, rather than in separation. It also fails to understand that the freedom of speech and the right to expression under Article 19 of the Constitution is not absolute, and is subject to proper restrictions.
Therefore, the certification process represents a careful balance between creative freedom and regulatory inspection. The title and main character of the film has a religious meaning and will have a tendency to cause public disorders, as she is named after Goddess Janaki (Sita), who holds deep religious significance in the Ramayana.
Justifying CBFC’s demand to change the name, the board’s lawyer stated that Janaki’s character in the film was depicted as rape. In addition, allowing such films for public exhibition will be a dangerous example and the box of Pendora will be opened for future presentations. This will reduce religious sentiments in communities and pose a serious threat to the public system.
Meanwhile, the production company of the film agreed to convert the name ‘Janaki’ into ‘Janaki V’ in the film, following the suggestion by CBFC, as the full name of the character is Janaki Vidyadharan. Thus the film will be resumed Janaki V. Vs State of KeralaIt also agreed to recommend the reference to the name ‘Janaki’ or chose an alternative name in two examples in the film.
The CBFC stated that the manufacturer would issue a sensor certificate within three days of the firm, which would present the film in its revised form. Justice n. Nagresh’s bench posted the case for hearing on 16 July.
Justice Nagresh on Saturday watched the film starring Union Minister Suresh Gopi based on the request of the film’s production company Cosmos Entertainments.
