Justin Timberlake’s old anti-alcohol ad ‘is no longer the same’, resurfaces and goes viral after his arrest

Justin Timberlake’s DWI arrest isn’t breaking anyone’s hearts, as the Internet is blaming the pop star for his major mistake in broad daylight.

Like every other big breakout news story on the web, the “Mirrors” singer’s arrest also prompted fans to dig up some dirt from the past. Timberlake has been at the center of several controversies before. Yet, this blast from the past has sent netizens into a whirlwind of meme-worthy jargon on social media.

*NSYNC’s 2001 ad about drinking responsibly hasn’t aged very well, especially since Timberlake went back on his own words. The pop band’s Super Bowl ad serves as an anti-alcohol PSA, showing the quintet at their father’s doorstep.

Once Timberlake, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick and JC Chasez introduced themselves to the father, who was unfamiliar with the famous people. Timberlake said, “We’re going to go door to door and say thank you.”

In the message, Joey Fatone thanked the parents for “speaking out.” [their] Tell kids about drinking alcohol.”

J.C. Chasez says, “See, despite all our success, you still have a greater influence on your children than we do.”

The 2001 Budweiser ad resurfaced online following Timberlake’s arrest for drunk driving in the Hamptons on June 17. As the video spread like wildfire on TikTok, users began to ponder the irony of the ad and how it has become quite “outdated,” especially for Timberlake who is one of the main faces of the group – one of the most popular artists at the time.

While some joked that it was “too early” to share the video, others referred to it as “beautiful timing” and said the ad has “aged like a fine wine.”

Another fan dug even deeper and drew parallels between the reality of Timberlake’s arrest and how his arresting officer was reportedly unfamiliar with the singer, just like the group’s father was unaware of the incident in an old video. “The father doesn’t know who they are, that’s also a similarity, the cop doesn’t know who JT is.” X/Twitter also got in on the conversation. Many users jokingly referenced JT’s songs like “What Goes Around Comes Around” and “Cry Me a River.”

About Justin Timberlake’s DWI arrest

The “Suit & Tie” hitmaker was detained by police – reportedly for being “intoxicated,” as a witness at the American Hotel commented, via The Post. Timberlake was reportedly hanging out with friends at the historic site on Monday night. Afterwards, he got in his car and drove through a stop sign. When the arresting officer caught up with him, he refused to take a Breathalyzer test and reportedly insisted that he simply “drank a martini and I went home with my friends.”

He was taken into custody and arrested on DWI charges at the Sag Harbor Police Station. According to a criminal complaint obtained by Page Six, the arresting officer reportedly claimed Timberlake’s eyes were “red and glassy.” The same thing eventually appears in his mugshot.

Timberlake has yet to break his silence on the scandal. He was released without bail later Tuesday morning. A representative for his lawyer said in a statement: “Mr. [Edward] Refuse [Jr] Mr. Timberlake looks forward to vigorously defending himself against these allegations. He will have more to say at the appropriate time. He is currently awaiting full information from the DA’s Office.”

Matters were made worse for J.T. when a source told Page Six following his arrest that he had a “real drinking problem” for years.

Timberlake also admitted during an interview with Observer Music Monthly in 2006, “I’m just like anyone else, I get drunk, I do a lot of drugs and I’ve been caught with my pants down a few times. I just make sure there are no cameras around.”
