Beloved music artists Blackpink’s Lisa, Seventeen and Le Seraphim carried the K-pop flag high at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards held at the UBS Arena in New York on September 11.
The Thai rapper’s stunning appearance initially offered a stunning red-carpet moment, as the Blackpink member redefined her fashionista status in a custom Mugler nude-toned hooded gown. Lalisa Manobal played a favorite role as a Bulgari ambassador by accessorizing her look with a gold Serpenti necklace.
The K-pop ‘rockstar’ won his historic second Best K-Pop Moon Person title at the VMAs with other hits such as Jungkook’s “Seven”, NCT Dream’s “Smoothie”, “Lalalala” from “Stray Kids”, Newsens’ “Super Shy” and Tomorrow X Together’s “Deja Vu”. In 2022, he won the same title for his solo song “Lalisa”.

Lisa’s first music release under her own label, LLOUD, was undoubtedly a “meaningful” one, and she made sure to express her wholehearted gratitude to her fans who have been with her through thick and thin. “‘Rockstar’ was a meaningful comeback for me after ‘LALISA,’ so it’s very special to me. Thank you to the RCA family, Team LLOUD, the Blinks (Blackpink fandom name), and the Lilies (Lisa fandom name) around the world. Thank you so much for this award,” she said in her acceptance speech.

Seventeen leads as best group
Meanwhile, SEVENTEEN beat out heavyweights like NSYNC, Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Twenty One Pilots and fellow K-pop A-listers NCT DREAM, NewJeans and TOMORROW X TOGETHER to take the Best Group trophy. In previous years’ VMA ceremonies, BTS and BLACKPINK have taken home the award. Unlike Lisa, SEVENTEEN was absent from the US awards ceremony. Just a few days earlier, the 13-member K-pop boy group completed their first headlining act at Lollapalooza Berlin.
Le Seraphim receives the Best Push Performance of the Year award
Finally, LE SSERAFIM performed their new songs “Crazy” and “1-800-HOT-N-FUN” during the 2024 MTV VMAs pre-show. The hit-making South Korean act won the MTV Push Performance of the Year Moon Person award for “Easy,” the lead single from their third EP. The K-pop quintet beat out Kali, Gloriella, Benson Boone, Coco Jones, Victoria Monet, Jesse Murph, Teddy Swims, Chapel Roan, Flyanna Boss, Lofty and The Warning to be regarded as the triumphant rising talent in the music industry.
