Eight weeks window between dramatic and OTT release thug Life A ‘practical’ decision is beneficial for all stakeholders, actor-producer Kamal Haasan said on Tuesday (May 20, 2025) at a trailer showcase in Mumbai.
thug Life-The splash, emotional gangster drama- Kamal with him Naikan Director Mani Ratnam. The pair is collaborating on a film after 36 years. Co-integrated Silambarson TR, Trisha Krishnan and many others, thugs life have been slated for release in theaters on 5 June. This will stream on Netflix after the eight-week holdback period.
“It’s not even an experiment, but to do practical talk,” said Kamal, who has produced thugs under his banner Raj Kamal Films International with Madras Talkies and Udayanidhi Stalin’s red huge films.
While the difference of eight-week has been quoted as a distribution criteria, many films have been selected for dynamic winding since the epidemic, the OTT has ended anywhere between four to eight weeks. For example, upcoming Hindi film ForgiveAfter a legal controversy and a settlement, it will be available on Prime Video only two weeks after its dramatic release on 23 May.
“I am glad that OTT partners sat with us and agreed. It was not a conversation; it was a plan. We hope others may follow it and it would make the industry healthy,” 70, Kamal said.
Earlier, Allu Arjun’s fame Pushpa 2: Rules Netflix was also premiered on Netflix after completing eight weeks of exclusive run in theaters.
Kamal and Mani Ratnam caught the event in Mumbai with STR, Ashok Selvan, Trisha Krishnan, Abhiram and Sangeet Mestro R Rahman in Mumbai.
Kamal saw back during shooting days Naikan In Mumbai in the late 80s. “We were in the Colaba region (in South Bombay) and the director Ramesh Sippy was shooting in Film City. We had to do some shots in the film City, so we all went to see the shooting of Mr. Ramesh Sippy. We are finally, the film buffers. This is the qualification that has brought us here.”
