Kamal Haasan, the veteran actor and founder of Makkal Needi Mime (MNM), said on Friday (May 30, 2025) that he would not apologize for his comment on Kannada language that has created controversy in Karnataka.

He addressed reporters after calling Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin at the Dravida Munnetra Kazgam (DMK) party headquarters ‘Anna Arivalayam’ in Chennai on Friday. Asked about refusing to apologize for his comment, he said, “This is a democratic country. I believe in justice and law. I believe that love will win. My love for Karnataka, Andhra and Kerala is true. Someone will not doubt other than those with an agenda.”
On banning sanctions from KFCC, Mr. Haasan said, “I have been threatened first. If I am wrong, I will apologize. If not, I will not. This’ my lifestyle. My lifestyle. Please don’t tamper with it.”
Speaking at his first meeting with Mr. Stalin after the allocation of one seat of DMK to MNM for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, Mr. Haasan said he was asked to prepare for admission in Rajya Sabha.

He said, “I was advised by people with former experiences in Rajya Sabha. I am always speaking for Tamil Nadu. I will speak for Tamil Nadu in Rajya Sabha for the first time.”
Asked why he was now supporting DMK after criticizing him in the past, Mr. Haasan said, “It is necessary for the country.”
