Television actor t. Ravichandran has contacted the Madras High Court, seeking anticipatory bail in a case, allegedly to issue death threats to Kamal Haasan, a Member of Parliament (MP) and Makkal Needi Miam (MNM) by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) Police in Chennai.

Justice G. Jayachandran on Monday (August 18, 2025) directed a government lawyer to receive instructions from the CCB and postponed the hearing on Wednesday (August 20) on anticipatory bail argument. The petitioner had told the court that the words given by him during the YouTube interview were “unknowingly”.

It was brought in the notice of the court that Rajya Sabha member Mr. Haasan recently attended 15.Wan The year ceremony of the agram foundation of actor Suria which mainly provides financial assistance to young students to help young students pursue higher education.

Addressing the audience in the incident, the MP highlighted the importance of education and appreciated the efforts taken by the foundation towards achieving the purpose. He also said that education was the only weapon that could break the hut of Sanatan Dharma.

Threat

While talking to the YouTube channel, the petitioner raised a strong objection to the actor-cum-consentor as a shocking of the Sanantana Dharma, who prevent the development of those who do not follow it. He also warned that if he keeps making such comments, he would cut the MP’s throat.

There was an uproar in the YouTube interview. MNM Vice President and retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer AG Morya filed a complaint with the Greater Chennai Police Commissioner on August 10, which was about the threat of death issued by the petitioner to his party leader.

The complaint was sent to the CCB and a first information report (FIR) was registered without any preliminary investigation, the petitioner told the High Court that he did not know about the number of crime number (FIR number) that was booked against him.

Saying that he had no intention of releasing the threat of death for the MP, the petitioner said that he had come from a very civilized family and was ready to follow any condition for the court for the purpose of granting anticipatory bail.
