The much awaited Kamal Haasan-Starr ‘Thug Life’ will no longer come to theaters in Karnataka on the date of June 5 in Karnataka. The announcement came from the film’s producers on Tuesday, which was made after a backlash on the controversial comments of Haasan about Kannada language.
Putting legal weight on the issue, the Karnataka High Court criticized the actor-royalty, who did not release his earlier statement, stating that “Kannada was born out of Tamil.” Hearing a petition from Justice Nagprasana, the film’s production house, Raj Kamal Films International, an forgiveness could have dismissed the controversy.
The court has set the next hearing for June 10 at the request of the production house for police protection to ensure a safe screening of the film between a call for boycott by the Karnataka Film of Commerce (KFCC).
Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam performance in Karnataka
Industry supervisors believe that the release of the film in Karnataka can result in major financial failures as a result of the release of the film. Kamal Haasan’s recent films have experienced the results of the mixed box office in the state. His last outing, Indian 2, performed a minor performance in several language versions with an estimated regional income of Rs 9 crore. In contrast, his 2022 hit Vikram directed by Lokesh Kanagaraja, according to a report on India, earned around Rs 25 crore in Karnataka.
Director Mani Ratnam, who is halling the thug life, first saw a lot of success in the region with ‘Ponyin Selvan: II’, which reportedly earned nearly Rs 20 crore in Karnataka.
How much ‘thug life’ will lose?
Keeping these examples in mind, business experts estimate that thugs may lose Rs 10-15 crore in life revenue if its Karnataka release is completely scattered.
Some distributors damage the manufacturer’s stake between Rs 12-15 crore. According to filmmaker and analyst G. Dhananjayan, the production house can potentially increase the total gross collection of Rs 35-40 crore in a total of Rs 35-40 crore without access to the Karnataka market.
