The homebound of filmmaker Neeraj Gaywan, which is actor Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatar, have been officially selected for the 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival.
Directed by Ghaywan, the film will be screened in the ‘Un Definitely Relations’ section – a category that is known to introduce artistic cinema from all over the world.
The announcement was made on Thursday as Cannes unveiled its official selection lineup for 2025, including global names, including Wes Anderson and Eri Ester.
Both Janhvi and Ishaan took them to their Instagram to express their happiness.
Ishaan shared the news with fans on his Instagram account, calling the role “most challenging”.
“A film I knew that he is special from the moment that entered my life and my most challenging part. It is the same that has become dreams: pure intentions, grit, compassion, and truth. One of the most glorious moments of my cinematic journey. One of the most glorious moments of my cinematic journey is thus so far with a beautiful mind with my friend and a deepest Empath – the year,” Read a part of his post.
Janhvi Kapoor also shared her excitement, saying that the team has been honored and cannot wait for the audience to show the film on the “big screen”.
“A moment where the Indian cinema occupies the world. We are honored to declare that in the 78th edition of the Homebound Festival Day Cannes makes our way for the official selection in the ‘United Nations’ category’. Our hearts are full, and we can’t wait to show you all this journey on a big screen!” she wrote.
For Ghaywan, this is a special return, as his first film Masan, in which actor Vicky Kaushal starred, was also displayed in Cannes and won the award in the same category in 2015.
Meanwhile, Homebound is written and directed by Neeraj Ghaywan and Ishan Khat, Janhvi Kapoor and Vishal Jethwa. The film is produced by Karan Johar, other Poonwal, Apoorva Mehta and Somen Mishra. Co-products include Marizk de Suja and Melita Toscan du Plantar.
The 78th Cannes Film Festival will take place from 13 May to 24 May.
