Kangana Ranaut hosts emergency special screening in Nagpur; Nitin Gadkari, Anupam Kher and others were present

New Delhi: Ahead of the release of her much-awaited political drama Emergency, Kangana Ranaut hosted a special screening in Nagpur. The event was attended by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, co-star Anupam Kher and former activists jailed during the Emergency, making it a poignant and memorable gathering held at Cinepolis.

Kangana Ranaut, who directs and stars in Emergency, shared a glimpse of the special screening of the film on her Instagram handle.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari praised Kangana Ranaut for the film Emergency, he said, “I am watching this film for the first time.” I have seen the period of emergency. If there was no emergency I would not have entered politics. We have invited some persons who worked hard during the emergency struggle. Many people had to face difficulties during the Emergency. Kangana ji has brought out the true history of Emergency in a meaningful way.

“I really liked one of his films, which I watched with my family – Jhansi Ki Rani. That film was so well made that it still lingers in my mind. Therefore, I am confident that this film will also be a classic. The public will support it. The history of Emergency will once again be before the next generation.

Recalling the struggle of the people at that time, he further said, “Many people had to suffer during that time. He was beaten, put in jail and could not arrange even Rs 50 for bail. Many cases were registered during the Emergency. Ordinary people, including women, left their homes and families to fight. For us this is not entertainment but a question of our identity.

Expressing his gratitude, he finally said, “I want to thank Kangana ji for bringing history to light. We have invited opinion makers in the society for this programme. I also want to express my gratitude to Anupam ji.

Kangana Ranaut expressed her gratitude during the first screening of Emergency, she said, “Nitin ji feels like family, he feels a sense of belonging.” During my campaign, I requested him and he immediately came to my aid. Even now, when I face challenges, I request him to help me overcome this hurdle and watch my film.

Recalling the hurdles including the ban on the film and intense scrutiny by the censor board, he said, “This film based on the Emergency era has already faced many restrictions. The film was sent to the censor board in September last year. In this, a thorough investigation was done involving historians and every dialogue was analyzed. We had to give evidence. After six months of struggle the film is finally here.

Emergency, releasing in theaters on January 17, is directed by Kangana Ranaut and highlights the 21-month emergency imposed by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi from 1975 to 1977 and its consequences. Kangana has played the role of Indira Gandhi in the film.

The star cast includes Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhary and late Satish Kaushik in lead roles.
