Bengaluru: Kannada star Dr Shivarajkumar, son of Kannada film legend Dr Rajkumar, shared a video from the US on the first day of 2025, in which he detailed his journey of overcoming cancer and assured fans of his comeback.
In the video, Shivarajkumar wished everyone a happy New Year and said, “I am hesitant to speak because I can get emotional at this time. Leaving Karnataka was a very emotional experience for me. Under these circumstances, fear is inevitable, but the support of my fans has mitigated it significantly.

He further said, “The way the doctors took care of me gave me a lot of courage. During the shooting of the film ’45’, I underwent chemotherapy and the climax fight scene was also shot. As the date of going to America for treatment approached, I became worried. However, my wife Geeta and daughter Nivedita stood by me the whole time.
“Doctor Manohar, who treated me, took care of me like a child. My bladder has been replaced, but there is no need to panic. I am doing well and will come back with double the energy. I thank all my fans for their unwavering support,” assured Shivarajkumar. His wife Geeta Shivarajkumar, who is seen with him in the video, said that all the medical reports have come negative, and it has been officially declared that Shivarajkumar is cancer free. She insisted, “He recovered because of the blessings of his fans and I will never forget that.”
The actor underwent surgery at a hospital in Miami, USA, where his cancerous bladder was removed. According to surgeon Dr. Murugesh Manoharan, an artificial bladder was created using Shivarajkumar’s intestine.
In November, Shivarajkumar spoke publicly about his illness, acknowledging that he was human like everyone else. Although he did not reveal at the time that it was cancer, he said, “At the end of the day, I’m a human being. I have a health problem and am currently undergoing treatment for it. I have completed some treatment sessions, and have a few more pending. After that, I will undergo surgery either in India or America.
