Actress Kareena Kapoor Khan has condemned the terror attack on a bus carrying pilgrims in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Taking to Instagram, the ‘Jab We Met’ star wrote: “Heartbroken. The attack in Reasi is a reminder that when violence takes hold, humanity suffers.”
Earlier, actresses Alia Bhatt and Priyanka Chopra also reacted to the shocking incident.
Alia wrote on social media, “This is heartbreaking. My condolences are with the victims and their families. Violence against innocent people shakes our family.”
Priyanka described the incident as “heinous”.
He wrote, “So sad. This brutal attack on innocent pilgrims is horrific. Why only on civilians and children?! It’s so hard to comprehend the hatred that has spread across the world.”
Meanwhile, Reasi Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Mahajan confirmed on Sunday night that at least 10 people were killed and 33 others injured in the terror attack.
According to officials, the bus, travelling from Shiv Khori temple to Katra, was targeted by militants at around 6.10 pm when it reached the Pouni area of ​​Reasi district bordering Rajouri district.
“The terrorists started firing due to which the driver lost control and the bus fell into the ditch,” Reasi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohita Sharma told ANI.
The SSP further said that the rescue operation has been completed and the injured have been taken to Narayana and Reasi district hospitals.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha condemned the attack and assured action against those behind it. “I strongly condemn the cowardly terror attack on a bus in Reasi. My condolences to the family members of the martyred civilians. Our security forces and JKP have launched a joint operation to search for the terrorists,” the LG said in a post on Twitter.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji took stock of the situation and asked me to keep a close watch on the situation. Those behind this heinous act will be punished soon. The Prime Minister has also directed that all the injured be provided with the best possible medical care and assistance,” the Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor said.
Ranjeet Singh, manager of the bus booking company whose bus was attacked in Reasi, Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday evening, recalling the horror of the attack, said that the driver sacrificed his life for the passengers.
Speaking to ANI, Singh said, “The bus used to run daily from Katra to Shiv Khori, bookings were done daily. But we never thought that this could happen to our vehicle. We used to hear about such things in Kashmir but this area was safe. We never thought that this could happen to us.”
As the bus left in the morning, we got a call at 5 am that our vehicle was fired upon… When we investigated a bit, we found out that it was an attack by terrorists… Passengers told us that the terrorist boarded the bus and asked the driver to get the passengers off the bus.”
“The driver thought the man was a terrorist. He refused to let the passengers off the bus and increased the speed of the bus. As soon as he increased the speed of the bus, the terrorist opened fire. The bus lost balance, but the driver kept driving. When the driver did not stop the bus, he (the terrorist) shot him in the head and killed him… then the conductor took over the steering.”
He said that as soon as he did so, the terrorist fired 3-4 bullets at the conductor too. He killed both of them. The bus lost balance and fell into the ditch.
The manager further said that if the driver had not shown presence of mind, no passenger would have survived. He said, “If the driver had not shown presence of mind, no passenger would have survived. They could have even set the bus on fire. The driver did a good job and sacrificed himself for the 40 passengers.”
