Karnataka government bans the release of ‘Humare Barah’ to avoid communal tension

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has banned the screening or telecast of the film ‘Humare Barah’ in the state for two weeks or till further notice.

The decision is in accordance with sections 15(1) and 15(5) of the Karnataka Cinema Regulation Act, 1964. The Karnataka government alleged that the release of ‘Humare Barah’ would create communal tension in the state.

The authorities took this decision after considering the requests of several minority organisations and delegations and watching the trailer.

The film was scheduled to release nationwide on June 7, 2024.

‘Humare Barah’, which is based on the topic of population growth, has garnered attention due to its bold narrative and thought-provoking themes.

Starring Annu Kapoor, Manoj Joshi and Paritosh Tripathi, the film has captured the imagination and anticipation of the public.

The imposition of this ban caused serious concerns among producers who had invested significantly in the production and distribution of the film.

This legal hurdle arose following a petition filed by activists of a particular religious community challenging the release of the film.

Jointly produced by Virendra Bhagat, Ravi S Gupta, Sanjay Nagpal and Shiv Balak Singh and directed by Kamal Chandra, ‘Humare Barah’ promises to present a compelling narrative that highlights a burning social issue.
