Mumbai: Quiz-based reality television show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, hosted by Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan, is all set to return with its 16th season on August 12.
The makers announced the premiere date of the new season with the tagline, “Zindagi hai, har mod pe sawal poochhegi, jawaab toh dena hoga”.
The promo of the show presents various scenarios where the individuals involved face resistance from their peers and are asked a series of questions that must be answered with conviction.
‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ is India’s most iconic television show. It is also responsible for reviving the career of Big B, who was facing severe financial crisis at the time.
In the late 1990s, Big B’s production house, Amitabh Bachchan Corporation (AB Corp), went bankrupt, as the way of making films in the industry at that time was very traditional and based on a highly corporate approach.
To pay back debtors, Big B turned to television with ‘KBC’ in 2000. Suddenly a megastar, who was previously seen only on the silver screen, reached millions of Indian homes through television. With the power of a new medium with him, Big B not only booked India’s primetime but also made a place in the heart of every Indian family.
Indian audiences gave a tremendous response to Big B in ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, which is based on the UK show ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?’
Shah Rukh Khan, one of the biggest stars of Bollywood, hosted the third season of the show after two successful seasons hosted by Amitabh Bachchan but Shah Rukh could not replicate the magic of Big B despite his unique charm.
Big B returned to the show with the fourth season and has been hosting it since 2010.
‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ will premiere on August 12 on Sony Entertainment Television.
