The Ernakulam Central Police in Kerala on Monday (January 6, 2024) arrested a person in a case registered against him for posting derogatory comments under the social media posts of actor Honey Rose.
The arrested person has been identified as Shaji, 60, of Kumbalam. A court released him on interim bail with directions to appear again on Tuesday (January 7).
The case was registered on Sunday (January 5, 2025) after the actor filed a complaint against 30 people who had made similar objectionable comments that day. The case has been registered under section 75 (sexual harassment) of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS) and section 67 (punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of the Information Technology Act.
“We are in the process of locating the remaining accused, though not necessarily all of them are from Ernakulam district,” police sources said.
Soon after her arrest, Ms Rose, in another Facebook post, “declared war” against all those who engage in sexual harassment on social media on behalf of all women who have gone through the same ordeal as her. She said that she has not attended any public event wearing any attire not permitted by the Indian legal system. The post states that I am not responsible for individuals who create their own legal systems based on my views.
“I don’t mind being made fun of or given constructive criticism about my appearance or my clothes. But reasonable restrictions on such references and gestures should be maintained. Therefore, I will come after anyone directing sexual assault on me using all the protections given to women under the Indian Justice Code,” the post said.
The Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes has also condemned the social media attack targeting Ms Rose and pledged full support to her.
Ms Rose said in her post on Sunday that a man, whom she did not name, was following her and trying to humiliate her through gestures after she declined the man’s invitation to attend some events. Was doing. From then on, the person concerned, as if in revenge, attended functions to which he was invited. They complained that the man also spoke without respect for women.
The actor had filed a police complaint against the comments made on this post.
