Kiran Rao joined the jury of 27th Shanghai International Film Festival

Famous Indian filmmaker Kiran Rao has been nominated in the international jury of the 27th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF). The appointment is another milestone in Rao’s acclaimed career as a director, producer and writer. Rao, whose recent film “Lapta Ladies” (Lost Ladies) was India’s official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 96th Academy Awards, would include a prestigious panel of global cinema voices led by Italian director and screenwriter Giuseppe Tornetor, which is known for Oscar-Vizema Cinema “Cinema”.

The jury includes a diverse lineup of famous film professionals: Argentina’s filmmaker Ivan Fund; Chinese actor and director Huang Bo; Greek manufacturer Thanisis Karthanos; Chinese director and documentary filmmaker Yang Leena; And acclaimed Chinese actress Yong Mei.


Rao expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm about joining the jury, saying, “This is an honor to be a part of a festival that is champion international cinema and storytelling. I am ready to experience a wide range of voices and attitudes on the screen, and to join with my fellow gamblers from all over the world.”

The 27th edition of Shanghai International Film Festival will take place in Shanghai, China from 13 June to 22 June. This festival serves as an important platform for cultural exchange and cinematic excellence, spotting both emerging talent and reflects the autores installed from all over the world.

Built under the banner of Kiran Rao’s “missing Ladies”, Aamir Khan Productions, Jio Studios and Kindleing Pictures, he received widespread significant appreciation for a combination of his sensitive depiction and touching storytelling, humor, sympathy and social insight.

The film, in which Nitanshi Goyal, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Srivastava, Chhaya Kadam and Ravi Kishan were released on 8 September 2023 at the 48th Toronto International Film Festival, after which a dramatic was released on 1 March 2024.

“Missing Ladies” talks about two young newly married brides, who exchange during a train ride in their husband’s homes.
