Conversations are rarely as candid as the one I recently had with actor Kishore, who ironically is not particularly known for giving too many interviews. “Nowadays, promotion has become an important aspect, so a little compromise goes a long way,” says laughing Kishore, who is making his debut in a Kannada film. thorn in 2004. Ask him about his 20 years in the film industry and he says it has been “good and very satisfying”.
Apart from working in all South Indian languages and Hindi, Kishore has also included a number of web series in his filmography, his latest being the Tamil series. parachuteIn the Disney+Hotstar series, the actor plays a strict father whose children go missing. “This is a story any father can relate to. It reminded me of the fights I had with myself. If they hadn’t turned this story into a series, I would have done it at some point because it is a story that must be told. This will force people to introspect on many subjects. We are raising not only children but also the society of the future,” says Kishore. “Parenting has become a big challenge today because we do not know how to raise children but it is a continuous process which we enjoy doing.”

Comparing it with his personal life, Kishore says, “My son knows more than me, although it is not necessary that he knows the right things. Many times we have to tell them that we are more experienced regarding a particular scenario and hence they should follow our advice. They may not understand it now but as they mature, they will.

Kishore is known for his on-screen personality, which has led him to land many police and gangster roles. But the actor has also starred in a handful of films that either deal with sensitive, emotional subjects Haridas And my son is gayOr those in which he played an ordinary, sometimes even vulnerable person, as in his role in Modern Love ChennaiAsk him how he plays a character that relates to him and Kishore says, “I’m a lazy actor.”laughs) and I don’t have any process. I read what I’m given and ask about the story and character in detail to know what is expected of me. Observations add to the characteristics when it comes to playing the role of a cop or a gangster. When I am doing a similar character, life experiences come to the fore. modern love,
The actor says he doesn’t have any particular way of transitioning from one character to another, given how contrasting they can be at times. “I don’t take my roles very seriously. Unless it’s for stuff like parachute, modern love Or viduthalai part 2It is relatively easy to play the role of a cop or a gangster where you have to be more involved. You don’t have to put in much effort to know whether you are doing the right thing at the right time. But it is challenging because such roles are repetitive. Somehow, the way they define the character is different and that helps.
Kishore is not particularly known for his over-the-top acting and he says, “Unless something excites me, I don’t think I can do extras and even if it does, extras. “Not doing it seems like the way to do it.” Giving an example of his recent media interaction for his Netflix series HeKishore says, “I was with a few actors with dramatic backgrounds and when asked about their acting process they had a lot to talk about and I was wondering what to say because I had nothing like that. Neither is there. Then I told him that I am also a farmer who does natural farming in which we do not do anything; We just sit, observe and let things happen. Similarly, in case of films, I think it is better to take what the makers have given us and naturally draw a picture of how to take it forward.
But what does he do when he isn’t given much material to work with? “I do nothing and wait for films from producers like Vetrimaaran who create strong characters. They all have their own stories and backgrounds, and that’s why their movies are longer. You should not limit such producers to their vision and let them make five-six hour long films. “It will be a treat to watch his films in their entirety and only then will everything from characters to ideologies be clearly defined,” says Kishore. “For example, Vada Chennai Explored the life inside the prison, the events and its ecosystem. When it had to be reduced to the runtime of a regular movie, we missed a lot. Amidst doing films that don’t give me complete satisfaction, doing films with producers like him makes you consider meaningful films. Of course, there’s the relaxation aspect but there’s also the satisfaction of doing a film that believes in you.”

Asked if his versatility in different languages makes work easier for producers, Kishore says, “They do and I will continue to support them as long as I get more work.”laughsIt depends on how well the story is told and no matter who the actors are in the film, a good film will always work. Maybe familiar faces will come in handy for the initial stretch.” Talking about commercial films, the actor says, ‘They have their work cut out for them; They give us an audience. A good, honest film will be successful only if the audience watches it. I think commercial films keep the theater going audience active.
As someone who has worked in multiple languages even before the advent of OTT and the trend of pan-India films, Kishore says the first-mover advantage no longer exists. “It was there in the beginning but now the borders have merged and merged which is good in a way. I don’t know what to call pan-Indian films. India is a diverse country; The more native they are, the more interesting they are. Films rooted in culture will reach everywhere and they don’t need to be pan-Indian,” says Kishore, who calls himself lucky when I point out how he has worked at the core of all the major OTT platforms.
“OTT was a good medium for small filmmakers earlier. Commercial cinema was hesitant to come to OTT because it considered this platform as a small screen medium before the pandemic. But with theaters closed due to the pandemic, OTT has been flooded with mainstream, commercial cinema. “Small filmmakers no longer have the space,” says Kishore. “However, actors are benefiting from this because content is constantly being generated. But I am not sure whether the cinema world will benefit from this or not. Thankfully, there is still no censorship here and there is very little space to raise one’s voice. Corporates will soon decide what we have to see. It is not there yet but is slowly reaching such a state. It is becoming more difficult.”
