Kolkata cinema legend is paying tribute to Guru Dutt, with a screening of the restored masterpiece and lecture. Kolkata Center for Creativity (KCC) on the occasion of the birth centenary of the filmmaker ‘Yeh Duniya Agar Mill.
As part of this memory, the KCC is collaborating with the National Film Development Corporation-National Film Archive of India (NFDC-NFAI), a curated screening of ‘Pyaasa’ and important talks with important talks and archial ingredients with important screening and digital prints of film-stils and the new auditions for new auditions. An official statement by the organizers stated, “Not as an indifferent icon with Dutt, but as a spectral appearance – as an artist, whose images still whisper to the present.”
The day -long immersive tribute began with a main address called ‘Effect, Authority and Ideology’, former Dean of Jawaharlal Nehru University, Prof. Ira Bhaskar had a widespread exploration of the aesthetics and politics of Guru Dutt’s films. He said how his films displayed a choreography of Prakash and Movement, mold with music.
Professor Bhaskar analyzed the politics of his film ‘Pyaar’, which he described as “very difficult criticism of capitalism” with prostitution of human emotions and values on the altar of the capital. She goes to examine some of her more essential tasks – examining patriarchy, feudalism, emerging modernity and Dutt’s reflections on the capitalist film industry.
Professor Bhaskar said about Guru Dutt’s love for Bengal and the impact on him, “He spoke of a fluent bungalow, and it was his life to make a film in Bengali.” She mentioned that she would return to a seminar at the Ritvik Ghatak in Kolkata in November this year, which she described as another all -time passion.
The day was completed, one of the most famous films of Dutt, with a screening of Passa.
