Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty has shared a long post expressing grief over the brutal rape incident in Kolkata. The actress wrote in her Instagram post, ”
It is sad that even after 78 years of independence, are women really free to live without any fear? It is a matter of great shame that in our “independent” India, women are still bound in the chains of injustice.
It is high time that such heinous crimes – like gang rapes and murders – are dealt with swiftly and with severe consequences. These sick individuals should fear the consequences that new and stringent laws will bring!
It is an irony that while we are celebrating our country’s independence, our women are unsafe and frustrated as legal cases drag on endlessly, causing pain and trauma to their families.”
In the same post, he wrote, “I hope for a change in the system, with swift and decisive punitive measures, so that women can finally experience freedom without fear. That will be true independence and self-reliance.”
My heart goes out to Dr. Moumita and her family. I plead for justice for her and for every woman who deserves justice, and that too within a reasonable time frame.
