Kumar Sanu calls AI video of him ‘singing’ for former Pakistan PM Imran Khan a ‘serious misuse of technology’

Indian singer Kumar Sanu has refuted false claims of him attending a concert and singing for the freedom of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan. Recently, an AI-generated video of Kumar Sanu went viral on social media in which he allegedly attended a party organised for Imran Khan.

‘Some people are trying to defame me’

A video recently circulated on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) claimed that Kumar performed at a music concert and sang a song demanding freedom for former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The video appears to be shot at one of Kumar’s concerts, but the voice appears to have been altered to read, “Imran Khan ko azaad karenge, Wazir Azam banayenge. Zulm ke kulid aawaz uthaenge, Naya Pakistan hum banayenge. (We will free Imran Khan and make him prime minister. We will raise our voice against injustice and create a new Pakistan.)

But on Sunday, the singer took to Instagram to speak about the incident and shared a screenshot of a PTI report to bust the rumours. He wrote, “I want to make it clear that I have never sung a song for the former Prime Minister of Pakistan. The audio that is going viral on Facebook is not my voice – it has been created using AI. Some people are trying to defame me and hence I want to tell my fans that this news is fake, a lie!”

He also condemned the misuse of technology and urged people to stop spreading misinformation. He said, “This is a serious misuse of technology and I urge the Indian government to take immediate action to stop the misuse of AI and deepfake technology. Let us stop the spread of misinformation.
