Lady Gaga says after Paris Olympics performance criticised: ‘I bet you didn’t know…’

Lady Gaga’s performance at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony was criticised for technical difficulties. Many complained that the singer’s voice was not clearly audible, and questioned whether there was something wrong with the audio equipment.

However, after this criticism, Gaga released a statement to X. It is clear from this that she did not let the negativity dominate her mood.

‘I wanted nothing more than to give a performance that would touch the heart of France’

“I am so grateful to have been asked to open the 2024 Paris Olympics this year,” Gaga said. “I am also so proud to have been asked by the Olympic Organising Committee to sing such a special French song – a song to honour the French people and their wonderful history of art, music and theatre.”

Gaga wrote that the song was sung by Paris-born French ballet dancer Zizi Jeanmaire. She sang the famous track Mon truc en plumes in 1961.

“And this isn’t the first time we’ve met each other. Zizi featured in Cole Porter’s musical “Anything Goes” which was my first jazz release. Although I’m not a French artist, I’ve always felt a very special connection with French people and singing French music – I wanted nothing more than to create a performance that would touch the heart of France, celebrate French art and music, and remind everyone of one of the most magical cities on Earth – Paris – on such an important occasion,” Gaga wrote.

She added, “We rented pom poms from the Le Lido archives – an authentic French cabaret theater. We worked closely with Dior to create custom costumes that used naturally molted feathers. I studied French choreography, which brought a modern twist to a French classic. I practiced tirelessly to learn a joyful French dance, refining some old skills – I bet you didn’t know that when I was first starting out, I used to dance at 60s French parties on the Lower East Side! I hope you love this performance as much as I do.”

“And to everyone in France, thank you so much for welcoming me to your country and singing in your honor – it’s a gift I’ll never forget! Congratulations to all the athletes participating in this year’s Olympic Games! It’s been my highest honor to sing for you and cheer you on!! Watching the Olympic Games always makes me cry! Your talent is unimaginable. Let the games begin!” Gaga said.

The Olympic Games commented on Gaga’s post, saying, “We are so grateful you were part of this special moment. It was instantly iconic. Thank you!”
