Lady Gaga made a stunning start to the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics on Friday, but her performance was actually pre-recorded. Gaga’s set along the Seine River was filmed just hours earlier, despite technical difficulties and bad weather.

The Grammy Award-winning artist paid tribute to French star Zizi Jeanmaire with her rendition of “Mon Truc en Plumes.” associated PressGaga was seen warming up on stage about three hours before the ceremony began, and after performing for about an hour, she exited the stage and waved to fans.

Olympic and Paralympic opening ceremony choreographer Maud Le Pledec explains the decision to pre-record the performance Diversity“For safety reasons, we had to pre-record late in the afternoon, when we knew it was going to rain – we had minute-by-minute updates, we had never watched the weather forecast so closely in our lives,” said Pladek.

“We assessed that even if there were a few drops of rain it was going to be very dangerous for the actors. [Gaga] “We absolutely wanted to do it, so we thought it was better to record it in advance rather than cancel it,” Pladek added. “The soil would have been slippery. She was wearing high heels, it was very close to water, there were stairs… we had to be extremely careful.”

After the performance, Gaga watched the ceremony from her dressing room before returning to the hotel. She later shared a statement about her experience on social media.

Gaga said, “Although I am not a French artist, I have always felt a special connection with the French people and singing French music – I wanted nothing more than to deliver a performance that would warm the heart of France, celebrate French art and music, and remind everyone of one of the most magical cities on Earth – Paris, on such an important occasion.”
