Legendary Hollywood producer Daniel Selznick dies at 88

Los Angeles: Famous Hollywood producer Daniel Selznick has died. He was the youngest son of famous film producer David O. Selznick and theater producer Irene Mayer Selznick. According to the Hollywood Reporter, 88-year-old Daniel died of natural causes in California.

Born on May 18, 1936 in Los Angeles, Daniel graduated from Harvard University and also studied at the University of Geneva and earned a graduate degree at Brandeis University. He later entered the entertainment industry and worked on several memorable projects.

Her father David, who died in 1965, made dozens of iconic films, including 1939’s Gone With the Wind, 1946’s Duel in the Sun and 1933’s King Kong. Her mother Irene, who died in 1990, was the daughter of film legend Louis B. Mayer and was nominated for a Tony Award for the 1955 play The Chalk Garden.

Daniel later collaborated with his older brother Jeffrey Selznick (who died in 1997) to produce the Peabody Award-winning documentary The Making of a Legend: Gone with the Wind. The documentary chronicled how his father created the popular 1939 film.

He also produced the TV miniseries Blood Feud, Hoover vs. the Kennedys: The Second Civil War, Night Drive, and Reagan’s Way: Pathway to the Presidency, the latter of which he directed.

He also served for many years as director of the Louis B. Mayer Foundation. And he also found success as a theatrical producer, even portraying his stepmother, Jennifer Jones, in a light-hearted comedy, The Man with the Perfect Wife.

According to the Motion Picture & Television Fund (MPTF), Daniel Selznick was married three times and had no immediate surviving children.
