NEW YORK — Linkin Park is back with a new lineup and its first new music since the death of lead singer Chester Bennington in 2017.
On Thursday, the band revealed new vocalist Emily Armstrong and drummer Colin Brittain on a livestream, joining returning members Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Phoenix and Joe Hahn. Shinoda and Armstrong will share vocal duties. The new lineup released a single, “The Emptiness Machine,” and announced a new album, “From Zero.” It will be released Nov. 15.
The rock-rap band was one of the most commercially successful artists of the 2000s, with Bennington contributing vocals. At age 41, he died by suicide shortly after the release of the group’s last album, “One More Light.” In the years since, Linkin Park has released several re-releases, including “Hybrid Theory,” “Meteora” and, this year, the 20th anniversary edition of a career-spanning greatest hits collection, “Papercuts.”
“Before Linkin Park, our first band was named Zero. The title of this album reflects both this humble beginning and the journey we are currently on,” Shinoda said in a statement announcing the upcoming release.
Armstrong comes from the alternative rock band Dead Sara and Brittain is a songwriter and producer who has worked with other bands such as Papa Roach, One OK Rock and All Time Low. They will replace original drummer Rob Bourdon, who “has decided to step down from his position,” a representative for the band told The Associated Press.
