Lisa Marie’s new posthumous memoir lifts the curtain on how the late singer coped with the death of her son Benjamin Keough
Lisa Marie Presley had difficulty dealing with the death of her son Benjamin after he died by suicide in 2020. In his posthumous memoir, From Here to the Great Unknown, he described how he kept his 27-year-old son’s body on dry ice at his Los Angeles home. The book, released Tuesday, was completed by Lisa Marie’s daughter Riley Keough after she died from a bowel obstruction in 2023.

“I have a separate Casitas bedroom in my house and I kept Ben Ben there for two months. There is no law in the state of California that requires you to bury someone immediately. I found a very sympathetic funeral home owner…she said, ‘We’ll bring Ben Ben to you. You can keep it there,” the late singer wrote in her explosive memoir.
Riley noted that it was “really important” to her mother to “get enough time to say goodbye in the same way she did to her father, Elvis Presley, who died when Lisa Marie was just nine years old.” The Lights Out singer wrote, “Having my father in his house after he died was incredibly helpful because I could go and spend time with him and talk to him.”
Lisa Marie described how having her son’s body at home gave her time to move on. The room was kept at a temperature of 55 degrees to preserve Benjamin’s body, she said, adding that they faced difficulty finding a resting place for him as he traveled back and forth between Hawaii and Graceland. “That’s why it took so long,” he wrote.
“I’ve gotten so used to taking care of him and having him there,” the Dirty Laundry singer continued, adding, “I think it would scare the living crap out of them to have someone else’s son in there like that. ” , But not me.” “I felt very lucky that there was a way that I could still parent him, just delay it a little bit more so that I could be okay with giving him a rest. “
The family eventually went to the funeral for Benjamin in Malibu and he was buried with Elvis at Graceland. In 2022, Lisa Marie told People that she was “devastated” by her son’s death but that she had to “continue to move on for my girls.” “I keep going because my son made it clear in his final moments that taking care of and caring for his younger sisters was at the forefront of his concerns and mind,” she said.
