Charli XCX wowed fans with her new album, Brat, two weeks ago. The 31-year-old singer received praise for the creative and upbeat synth-pop tracks. However, one song garnered the most attention—Girl, So Confusing. In the third single from her sixth studio album, Charli sang about her complicated friendship with a fellow musician. Fans quickly began speculating about who it could be and now it appears they were right about one singer in particular, Lorde.
Lorde and Charli XCX end their feud
The Boom Clap hitmaker released a remix version of Girl, So Confusing, which also features Lorde, of whom he’s previously admitted to being jealous. “When ‘Royals’ came out, I was so jealous of the success that song had, and that [Lorde] According to Entertainment Weekly, Charlie said at the time, referring to the 27-year-old singer’s 2013 hit movie.
In her latest collaboration, Lorde admits she was “speechless” when she received the message from Charli. “Well, honestly, I was speechless / When I woke up to your voice / You told me how you were feeling / Let’s work it out on the remix,” Lorde sings. She also admits to canceling plans with the English singer in the past because she felt “so lost in her mind.”

“‘Cause for the last few years I’ve been at war with my body / I tried to get skinny by starving myself / And then I gained all the weight back,” Lorde sings. “I was caught up in the hate / And your life looked so great / I didn’t think for a second / That my voice was in your mind,” Lorde sings, admitting she refused to take pictures with Charli over body image issues.
At the end of the verse, the Supercut singer addresses her defensive traits that she acquired over time, not knowing that they continue to haunt her as an adult. “She believed my projection / And now I understand it completely / Forgetting that inside that icon / There’s still a young girl from Essex,” Lorde ends her verse before going on to duet with Charlie. In the end, she shows her love for the Von Dutch singer, saying, “I ride for you, Charlie.”
