This year’s Cannes red carpet was a visual spectacle thanks to the presence of stars, but some of those walking the red carpet had to face a little inconvenience. Just a few days after a video went viral showing singer Kelly Rowland clashing with a security guard for rushing her to take pictures, Dominican actress Maciel Taveras also found herself in a similar controversy.
Following the incident, a few other clips surfaced, including one involving K-pop idol Yoona, who faced a similar situation. Although she didn’t say anything like the other two, she seemed clearly upset by the way she was treated. Now, Taveras has spoken out, echoing Rowland’s sentiments and demanding respect.

Maciel Taveras speaks out on the Cannes incident
The ‘Other Penelope’ star was recorded on the red carpet shoving a security guard who was trying to get her into the building as she tried to undo the long train of her dress, which featured Christ’s creativity. Frustrated with being constantly rushed and touched, Maciel was seen venting his anger at the same security guard who was involved in Kelly Rowland’s incident. Now, Kelly Rowland’s criticism of the security guard has made it to Maciel Taveras’ Instagram story, though Taveras didn’t share his experience directly.
“QUEEN,” Taveras wrote on her Instagram Story while sharing an article about Kelly Rowland.[We need] Respect.” she added in another post. “The woman knows what happened; I know what happened,” Rowland previously told the AP about what went wrong on the red carpet. “I have boundaries, and I stand by those boundaries and that’s it. And there were other women on that carpet who didn’t look exactly like me,” she said.

Cannes guard accused of alleged racism
Fans were angered by the repeated behavior of female security guards and others who were targeting only a few celebrities. Several videos went viral, bringing the issue to light. The former Destiny’s Child member was seen scolding the female guard, with a lip reader understanding Rowland as saying, “Don’t talk to me like that. Don’t talk to me like that. You’re not my mother. I told you not to talk to me like that.” She also raised concerns about why other women on the red carpet, who were not like her (possibly hinting at the alleged racial abuse), were not asked to move despite posing for long periods of time.

The incident was soon repeated with Maciel Tavares, and the video went viral again. Fans searched for more such incidents and found that South Korean star Yuna, a member of K-pop group Girls’ Generation, also suffered similar treatment as she was not allowed to pose and was hastily escorted out. Many fans pointed out how uncomfortable and clearly upset she looked, but instead of reacting, she endured it silently and went inside.
